Course Instructor - Joyce Clair

Course Fee - $20.00

Materials Fee - $15.00

Trees are interesting subjects to observe and sketch due to their variety of shapes and textures. Artists often struggle with the subject. Learning how to see and draw the big shapes and then the shapes within shapes make it easier. The first hour, We will review examples of the 19th century ”Hudson River Valley Painters” who were masters of drawing and painting trees. Weather permitting, we will then visit a nearby park to observe and sketch trees. Using a water-soluble graphite pencil and a water brush (supplied by instructor), we will sketch in black & white tones. Bring a mixed-media pad (available at WalMart) and an outdoor folding chair.

Joyce Clair is a watercolor artist and retired nurse practitioner who also enjoys drawing and teaching. She regularly teaches at regional art centers. Joyce grew up in Pennsylvania, lived in Maryland and Texas, and retired to Georgia in 2014. She studied drawing at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. Her watercolors are influenced by workshops with Skip Lawrence, Tom Lynch, Zoltan Szabo, Frank Webb, and Morris Green. Joyce’s paintings are displayed at Artworks Gallery, Murphy Art Center, Blue Ridge Art Center, “Joyce Clair Art” on face book and www.fineartamerica.com.
