Using water media, acrylic or watercolor, this class will explore the forms and colors of birds combined with floral elements. We will delve into the importance of strong composition, and layout our designs before embarking on creative color usage.

Although the instructor will be prepared with additional supplies and materials, each student should bring to class the necessary supplies for their chosen media:
FOR WATERCOLOR: paper, soft brushes, water jars, palettes, and paints or paint sets.
FOR ACRYLIC: heavy watercolor paper (300lb), or canvas panels or canvases, brushes, water jars, palettes or palette paper, paints or paint sets, plus any desired medium such as extender, glazing medium, flow, etc.
Students are encouraged to also bring reference material, although the instructor will have some available, as well.
Colleen Sterling is a professional artist and arts educator with over 40 years of exhibiting and teaching all aspects of the visuals arts, from private students, to adult workshops to classes in area art centers such as the Blue Ridge Arts Association, and the John C. Campbell Folk School. She is listed in the Marquis "Who's Who in American Art", and has her work in private and corporate collection in the US and abroad.
