Course Instructor - Heather Welch

Course Fee - $25.00

This course examines how the female body was understood and represented in Early Modern England. Drawing on midwifery manuals, medical treatises, and sensational crime pamphlets, these texts collectively reveal how women’s bodies became sites of medical authority, legal investigation, and moral anxiety. Through close analysis of primary sources, the course considers how print culture shaped—and was shaped by—changing understandings of gender, power, and the body.
