Materials Fee - $45.00

Learn the Appalachian art of broom making by crafting an Antler Broom. This is a 700-level class and is planned for intermediate and advanced students. Foot treadle management, plaiting skills, and moderate hand strength are all necessary. If the student has an antler they will be using,  they must contact the instructor for instructions on needed alterations and have the antler ready for class.

Materials: Scissors and a utility knife with a new blade – altered antlers will be available for purchase, but all other supplies will be provided by the instructor

Denise, a serial crafter, has been making baskets since 2014 and in 2022, became a broom maker after attending classes at Olive’s Porch and John C. Campbell Folk School. Since retiring  from education, broom making and crafting have now become activities that feed her creativity and provide an opportunity to give back to the community. She enjoys teaching classes at Oasis and Treasured Creations in Blairsville, GA and demonstrating broom making at the Georgia Mountain Fall Festival in Hiawassee, GA.
